Those Who Exalt Themselves The Pride Of Hektor Essay
Those Who Exalt Themselves: The Pride of Hektor I. Introduction While pride is a vice that is often frowned upon in modern cultures, it occupied a vastly different place in ancient Greek culture. Indeed, it was often inextricably tied to their concept of glory and heroism. Be as that may, Homer, in The Iliad of Homer, despite it being one of the most well-known pieces of ancient Greek literature, portrays pride in a more negative light than was the norm of his time. Pride in the Iliad most often causes much destruction and ends up being the downfall of many key characters, including Achilleus and Agamemnon. When the pride of Agamemnon is such that he misappropriates one of Achilleusââ¬â¢s war-won concubines, which ignites Achilleusââ¬â¢s pride to the point of refusing to fight in the war, they nearly singlehandedly hand over the victory to the Trojans. Given that these two eventually reconcile, however much they personify pride, it is Hektor whose hubris ultimately brings about his downfall. Homer uses Hektorââ¬â¢s storyline to exemplify the dangers of excessive pride and warn against allowing it to govern your actions. In his pursuit of pride and glory, Hektor shames himself by bringing about the deaths of his men and is killed after realizing his mistakes and seeking to restore his honor. It is only when Priam abandons his pride and humbles himself that Hektorââ¬â¢s storyline is resolved. II. Opposition Greek culture heavily stressed the importance of material goods as a status symbol. In

This biasness may be based on age, sex, race, ethnicity, nation, language, religion and disability of employees etc. It is the right of the people to be treated equally and provision of equal opportunities without any discrimination in any sense. The discrimination has many forms in the firms like unequal pay compensations,â⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Discrimination affects adversely to the organization due to the increased number of turnover and low productivity. It also harms the reputation of the organization. When employees are being treated differently on particular bases, then they lose their focus on the work and there is wastage of time and res ources. Although the practice of discrimination is unlawful by the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and it is forbidden to discriminate on the basis of color, religion, sex and race, still it is being practiced in the US on the very large scale.Highest numbers of discrimination in workplaces were recorded in US in recent age, according to the results of US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (Triana, Maria). This commission explores about the issues of discrimination and settles the matters by negotiating with parties and giving compensation to the employees, who are being discriminated. The compensation is may be in the form of promotions, cash payments or by providing the better employment opportunities. Workplace discrimination is not only ethically wrong but it also causes great expenses to the employer. It may result in the high rate of turnover, low commitment, productivity and sometimes

Essay on Holocaust The Unforgettable - 1569 Words
The history of the Holocaust is taught systematically in all school systems throughout America and most of the known-world. The atrocities committed by Nazi-Germany are well-known and are likely to never be forgotten. The proof behind Hitlerââ¬â¢s Final Solution is undeniable. However, with the rise of Holocaust deniers comes the grave danger of forgetting the truth behind the Holocaust, and dooming ourselves to repeating history once again. Holocaust deniers claim that certain events of the Holocaust never happened or are fabricated; however, there are numerous types of evidence that provide concrete proof that it did indeed occur. Possibly the most asinine of all the claims made by the deniers is that any photographic evidence of theâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Deniers also dispute the fact that gas chambers and crematoria were used as mass extermination tools even though those very same gas chambers and crematoria they deny still exist today. According to Harold Marcuse, a Pr ofessor of German history at University of California Santa Barbara, ââ¬Å"a small crematorium with one oven containing two incineration stretchers was in operation in the campâ⬠while plans went ahead for a larger replacement facility ââ¬Å"that included undressing rooms, disinfection chambers for clothing, an airtight gas chamber disguised as a shower, a morgue and a four-oven crematorium with eight incineration chambersâ⬠(45-46). Those same gas chambers and crematoria exist today as well as many others. Pictorial evidence along with scientific experiments performed on these buildings confirms their purpose beyond belief. The gas-chambers were air-tight and disguised as showers, if they really were showers and not gas chambers; there would be absolutely no reason for them to be airtight. The Germans tried to hide what they were doing from the rest of the world by disguising death contraptions as showers. If they were doing nothing wrong, then nothing should have been disguised as a shower. As for the crematoria, Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel talks of them in his auto-biography Night, ââ¬Å"Do you see that chimney over there? See it? We will write a custom essay sample on Womenââ¬â¢s Rights to Abortion or any similar topic only for you Order Now A tube is simply inserted through the cervix and the contents of the uterus are vacuumed out. The most commonly used type of second trimester abortion is called dilation and evacuation. Since the fetus has bones, bulk and can move, second trimester is not as simple. When as much of the fetus and placenta are vacuumed out then tweezers are used to remove larger parts. The controversy of abortion has become one of the most divisive an irrationally controversial issues of our times turned into a legal and political power struggle with no permanent resolution in sight . I am pro-choice! For years it has been said that abortion should not be legal . Today it is a big issue , many people feel aborting an unwanted child should be against the law , As I see it a womanââ¬â¢s body is her own to do whatever she wants . Approximately one to three million abortions are done each year. Women get abortions for many reason; such as rape , teen pregnancy and health reasons . Rape is one of the many reasons that cause woman to choose to end their pregnancies. Many of them feel guilty about ending a life, but they know deep down how badly they would treat the child , they hate their rapist, so in turn would hate the child. Pro-life activists say that abortion is murder and is in defiance of God. Would God want a Mother to hate her child or do her child harm? They would also question whether this child would be like itââ¬â¢s father (a rapist ). Young woman between 15 and 18 account for atleast 5 million abortions every year . One of every 5 pregnancies happen to teenage girls, in these situations some teenagers no they are not able to take care of these children for they are not mature enough for this awesome responsibility . In many cases the child would have no one to rely on but a single mother with no schooling and maybe a non-supportive family . The child would have a miserable upbringing left vulnerable also a baby born to a teenage mother is at a risk of suffering more health issues than a baby born to an older mom. Teenage mothers are more likely to get addicted to drinking, smoking and drugs due to the post pregnancy stress. â⬠¢Teen mothers also gain very less weight during pregnancy and are also at a higher risk for premature birth, which can also affect in low birth weight of the baby. â⬠¢Babies who are born with a low birth weight suffer from serious health problems like underdeveloped organs, infant mor tality, stomach complications, loss of vision in one or both eyes, respiratory complications and other lung problems. â⬠¢Most babies of teenage moms are likely to die early than babies of women in their twenties and thirties. Teenage parents often face some huge economic hardships. Teen mothers are forced to give up education and drop out of school, less than 20% of teenage mothers earn a high school diploma. â⬠¢Itââ¬â¢s very difficult for a teenage mother and father to support themselves and their baby. As their education is cut short, itââ¬â¢s very difficult for teenage parents to find a decent job. â⬠¢With education cut short, they are left with very little employment opportunities and they face a lot of hardship in building a secured future for themselves and their kid. â⬠¢Over 85% of teen parents rely on welfare for financial support at some point in their lives. With the little income of both parents, itââ¬â¢s very difficult to provide the baby with the required nutrition and care. After taking into consideration all of the hardships that will be faced abortion becomes a reality, and the teen mom realizes that pregnancy is not just about life in the womb, life comes with the res ponsibility of providing the child all the rights and comforts that they are entitle to. Another reason women seek abortion is Incest, why should a woman bring a child in the world that was conceive with a family member usually against her will. In Bioethicist Andrew Vargaââ¬â¢s article it is argued that in this tragic case the great value of the mental health of a woman who becomes pregnant as a result of incest can best be safe-guarded by abortion. It is also said that a pregnancy caused by incest is the result of a grave injustice and that the victim should not be obliged to carry the fetus to viability. This would keep reminding her for nine months of the act committed against her and would just increase her mental anguish. It is reasoned that the value of the womanââ¬â¢s mental health is greater than the value of the fetus. In addition, it is maintained that the fetus is an aggressor against the womanââ¬â¢s integrity and personal life; it is only just and morally defensible to repel an aggressor even by killing him if that is the only way to defend personal and human values. It is concluded, then, that abortion is justified in this case. Another reason women seek abortions is Incest, why should a woman bring a child in the world that was conceive with a family member. October 23, 1998: Dr. Barnett Slepian was shot to death at his home in Amherst, New York. His was the last in a series of similar shootings against providers in Canada and northern New York state which were all likely committed by James Kopp. Kopp was convicted of Dr. Slepianââ¬â¢s murder after finally being apprehended in France in 2001. May 31, 2009: Dr. George Tiller was shot and killed by Scott Roeder as Tiller served as an usher at church in Wichita, Kansas. Is taking a life of a full functioning human being worth spending life in prison for an unborn fetus. In conclusion for any pregnant woman making a decision to abort her unborn child is painful and ruthless, but under certain situations a woman should be able to terminate her pregnanc y by abortion. The article provided is comprised of a study into the employee turnover in particular organisations and also their skills in different scenarios. There are several available and explainable theories of the employee motivation and job performance in organisations. The factors of the employee turnover and the preservation of their skills in the Australian Organisations have been analysed. There is a noteworthy impact of the HRM on several factors of the performace of a firm. The different facets of employee turnover have also been mentioned in connection to these factors. It has been found that trade unions also have an impact in the performance and the morale of the organisational workers. The study or the area of the research basically aims to focus on the proper and genuine information on the several factors which is responsible for the dissatisfaction of the employees which ultimately lead them to leave their particular organisations. In addition to this, the factors which cause the retention of the employees are also studied. In this particular connection, there has been the importance of several multi-item segments which impact the scale measurements of the organisations. The multi dimensional factors comprise of both the positive and negative aspects of the organisation. Numerous drivers exist for the employee retention and turnover in certain organisations. This needs to be understood and the negatives need to be eliminated in order to retain the valuable employees in the organisation. There are several levels of research which helps reach at a particular conclusion the study aims at. The different drivers of employee retention and turnover have to be properly analysed. There are different factors which contribute to the organisational support as well job satisfaction in several contexts. The impact of certain HRM practices on a firm and its performance is to be taken care of. There needs to a proper collection of suitable data sources. Both the primary and secondary sources of the collected data need to be genuine to base the claims of the research on them. The factors which cause employee turnover and even retention are to be analysed carefully. The factors which induce employee performance and job satisfaction are to be studied properly as well. Only if all the requirements are met, a researcher can claim that the drivers contributing to the employee retention have been collected. Research criteria need to be met at all times. Several criteria have to be met on all the factors impacting organisational performance. The research needs to be accurate and suitable for conclusions to be drawn from it. The sources of research needs to be genuine, the data needs to be accurate and the conclusions reliable. Only then can the research be reliable. Unless a situation of complete dependability is arrived at and the percentage of accuracy has been reached at a maximum, only then can it be concluded that the aims of the research have finished. The research on the article which has been provided has several drawbacks. The nature of the studies which are available on the impact of the human resource practices on the employee turnover is very less. The articles which have been published on the particular topic of study is very less and therefore the conclusions drawn arent accurate enough. The ease of use of the data on the performance of the workers and the firms total turnover is bound to impact the reliability of the data and its collection process. In case the data concluded are reliable the research conclusions will also be accurate. The opinions of different employees on the factors which improve or hamper their skills are to be collected to facilitate in the research. In case the information or the opinions are not collected, it is bound to hamper the conclusion of the research. The research article in this particular case of business research does not put a proper focus on all the business scenarios influencing the situation of the organisation. The scenarios which have been mentioned in the particular article are not always correlated. It is seen that a huge portion of the article concentrates on the role of the different attitudinal preferences on the individuals in the organisations, but the situations which the employees face n varied situations are also varied. Therefore it can clearly be said that there needs to be more research which has to be conducted on this particular area of the employee retention in the organisations. The challenges in the specific study, ultimately show that much data is not available and the possible situations where the solutions need to understood are not clear as well. The criteria contributing to the patterns of retention are to be examined. Bibliography: Smith, A., Oczkowski, E., Smith, C. S. (2011).
